Welcome
Stretching from the precious green oasis of Sefton Park to Liverpool’s famous River Mersey, St Michael’s council ward lies between inner-city Toxteth and suburban Aigburth. It is a vibrant, diverse and fascinating community best known for the bustling night life and shops of Lark Lane.
Like the local railway station (which was re-opened for the International Garden Festival) and the Community Primary School, St Michael’s ward gets its name from a church built here nearly 200 years ago as part of a unique ‘hamlet’ of cast iron buildings. Well St Michael-in-the-Hamlet is still going strong. In the 1970s the former congregation of St Andrew’s, Aigburth Road joined us and for the past decade we have been linked with Christ Church, Linnet Lane. Our combined Church of England parishes cover the entire council ward. A church hall in Belgrave Road provides lots of different groups for children, young people and the wider community.
Building community is about listening to each other and working in partnership for the good of all, whatever our different backgrounds or beliefs. We are really interested in your feedback about ways St Michael in the Hamlet can help to make a positive difference locally. Hopefully this website is one way to get more people talking, dreaming and working together – for the next 200 years.
